RPS will maintain a fleet size that is adequate to provide the level of service to which we have committed. This will be monitored closely and carefully to ensure that we have the appropriate number of units in place to cover the call volume for emergency and non-emergency transports and that the correct number of units and positioning has been established to ensure and meet the described response times. Adjustments will be made in the areas necessary to accomplish the desired results. We will make available the manager and supervisor as well as a call in crew during unforeseen busy times until we have evaluated and established the appropriate number and location of units. The manager, supervisor and call-in crews will remain available for heavy call load times where our local resources have been exhausted. The call-in crews will be assigned a call in schedule and compensated to remain within limits to report for duty as an ALS unit.
RPS implements and maintains a “State of the Art” mechanical division. This division has 24-hour capabilities to professionally maintain the fleet of emergency and support vehicles in proper condition, in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
Our company operates the highest quality equipment available in the EMS industry. This assures our patients and the facilities they are receiving consistently safe and reliable equipment for medical treatment and transportation needs.
Our units are Ford Type II Ambulances with McCoy Miller Ambulance packages meeting the KKK-A-1822 compliance and regulatory specifications.
RPS has a detailed schedule for preventative maintenance on all ambulances. All maintenance logs, repair logs, break-down logs, and mileage logs along with multiple of others are kept for each ambulance.
Our company has initiated a 3 year rotation to purchase new vehicles to provide all counties served with top quality vehicles and equipment to provide excellent patient care.
Medical equipment maintenance is the responsibility of the supervisors. All maintenance is completed and recorded as recommended by the equipment manufacturer. These reports are submitted monthly to the operations manager for review. Medical supply warehousing is done in-house using a tiered system. Locally, medical supplies are stored in a climate controlled area with enough supplies to restock all units operating under the operations area. The bulk supplies are kept in a secure climate controlled area in Walker County under direct control of management.
Medical equipment maintenance reports are submitted to the operations manager for review monthly to ensure manufacturer recommendations have been complied with. Medical supply inventory change and usage reports are submitted to the supervisor responsible for maintaining medical supply inventory. As crews use supplies, they fill them locally by making a copy of the patient care report to justify the use of disposable items. Crews also fill out a Supply Request for the disposable supplies that are being replaced from the local stock. The supervisor keeps an inventory of what is in stock locally and what has been filled. The supervisor replaces the local stock from the bulk supply location. This allows for an up to date account of all supplies in stock and allows adequate time to replenish the supplies before allowing the levels to get low.
Medical supply distribution will be monitored closely. All ambulances will be stocked to the levels required by the State of Alabama and additional requirements per RPS policy. The distribution of supplies will be controlled by showing the documented use of the supplies in compliance with state protocols and RPS policies, exchanges made due to supply expiration and exchanges made due to damage. Excessive use or replacement of supplies will be documented and investigated.
